Cherries: Mitchell offers free cup coach travel
6:47pm Wednesday 14th November 2012 in Cherries News
By Neil Perrett
GENEROUS chairman Eddie Mitchell is offering supporters free coach travel to Cherries’ FA Cup second round clash at Carlisle next month.
Mitchell has made the gesture as a “thank you” to fans following the “tremendous backing” given to Eddie Howe’s team at Doncaster on Saturday.
Cherries will make a return trip to Brunton Park on Saturday, December 1 having won 4-2 at the venue at the end of last month in a league game.
Non-season ticket holders shelled out £35 to make the 680-mile round trip to Cumbria 18 days ago, while season tickets holders paid £28. The away attendance was 156.
Subject to demand, Mitchell also said the club may offer a light breakfast to supporters before the coaches depart Goldsands Stadium at the crack of dawn.
Mitchell told the Daily Echo: “I thought the supporters gave the team tremendous backing at Doncaster. Our fans were very vocal and it made a difference. I am sure it helped the players and helped us win.
“As a thank you and to show our appreciation, we would like to offer free coach travel to Carlisle in the FA Cup. We have got three long away trips one after another and I hope it will help.”
Cherries’ trip to Brunton Park is sandwiched between long-haul journeys to Bury on November 24 and Scunthorpe on December 8.
Meanwhile, the club today announced plans to hold a series of discussion groups as part of its commitment to supporter liaison, with the first topic being the matchday experience.
General manager and supporter liaison officer Liz Finney told the club website: “This is a fairly meaty topic to start off with as it encompasses many important touch points such as ticketing, catering and value.
“But we genuinely want to provide the best possible matchday to our existing supporters and give ourselves every opportunity to attract new supporters to the club.
“Our supporters are the best source of information to help us do this effectively.
“The key throughout will be to be informal but focused, realistic on what we can achieve now, but ambitious for what we want from the future.
“We are also planning to hold a discussion group on communication and one on our commercial operation so, if these pique your interest, you might want to hold out to be part of those meetings as the same supporters will not repeat across groups. This is an opportunity to be involved so please join us.”

He's not the best thing since sliced bread but he trying to make an effort. Shame some of you can't reciprocate.
No, I'm not married to any of his family, in love with him or work for him. I'm just grateful that I still have a club to follow.

Have the club ever thought of looking into chartering a "supporters plane" for some of these long distance away games? I'm sure there would be many fans who would pay reasonable money to fly to away games like Carlisle and Hartlepool for the novelty value if nothing else. I would definitely be interested.

A big thank you to Mr Mitchell and everyone at Dean Court for the free travel and communication initiatives, they are very much appreciated. Its always a pleasure to visit the ground for the matches (especially in recent months), the shop and other excellent facilities. The staff are pleasant and keen to help. AFCB is a class act on and off the pitch.

I have looked into flying up to Newcastle or Glasgow but neither are anywhere near Carlisle. Carlisle has an airport but nothing flys into it.
Now if the club was to charter a plane from Bournemouth to Carlisle airport and road transport to the ground I would be interested.
Why not have the team fly up and sit at the front while all the empty seats at the back could be sold to supporters?
Not sure if Eddie would like us chanting his name all the way up

I would love to take up the offer but the journey by road is just too long for me even though my son is telling me that he is willing to do it.

But for this one my son and I will stay in Premier Inn on Saturday night and drive back leisurely on Sunday morning.
But surely everyone can agree that this is a great gesture from the club. We had 6 coaches that day I think - 6 again would be nice!

There seems to be a (relatively small) band of supporters who will travel to any away game on a coach, so it's great for them and a reward for their loyalty.
Interesting point (above somewhere) about a plane. Mates of mine did fly to watch AFCB at Carlisle once, many years ago, on a plane organised by the club.
Last Sunday, my mate flew from Southampton to Manchester (to watch the Yid Army) for under £70. So cheap airfares are out there.
