EDDIE Howe is confident Cherries will benefit from Jon Meades’s loan move to AFC Wimbledon and insists: “It will do him the world of good.”

Meades, 20, this week signed a two-month deal with the League Two outfit and made his Dons debut in the 2-0 loss against Exeter City at St James Park on Tuesday night.

The former Cardiff City youngster penned a two-year contract with Cherries in August after impressing former manager Paul Groves during a trial.

But Meades is yet to make a first-team appearance and Howe believes game-time with the Dons will prove vital to his development.

Howe told the Daily Echo: “We have been impressed with Jon in terms of his attitude and he is a really good professional with excellent application to his work.

“We just feel at this stage of his career that he needs to play regularly in order to develop into a League One player.

“He has definitely got potential. We have only seen him in one game so far, a development game, when he played in central midfield for the majority of the match.

“It has been difficult to judge it so this will give us a good chance to analyse and watch the DVDs and see how he does.”

Discussing versatile Meades, who can play at full-back or in central midfield, Howe added: “These games will help him no end. For Jon, with the age he is and his experience in the game so far, I think this is invaluable for him and his own personal development.

“I am sure at the end of this spell he will come back a better player, so that can only do us good in the long term.”
