Lymington lesson for Knyveton side
SECTION One new boys Lymington started their top-flight campaign in nailbiting style, edging past Knyveton Gardens by just four shots (73-69).
Bournemouth captain Chris Dowding, meanwhile, was left to rue the state of the green as visitors Boscombe Cliff kicked off their title bid with an 87-80 victory. Graham Matthews, Tony Gabb, Dean and Russell Morgan starred for Cliff.
Meanwhile, Ringwood toppled Southbourne 74-68, Alexandra Park eased past Wimborne 87-83 and Poole Park triumphed 84-78 at Branksome Park.
SECTION TWO
FORDINGBRIDGE came away from the cliff-top with an 11-3 haul against Boscombe Cliff A.
Newly-promoted Iford Bridge suffered a 95-67 thumping at West Moors, while Electric gave Branksome Park A the treatment 93-78, thanks to Mike Elkins's rink of Michael Fay, Peter Cutts and Brian Butler who registered a 31-17 victory. Branksome's rink of Tony Jennings, Martin Goss, Geoffrey Judd and Joe Staddon salvaged two points with a 28-17 tally.
Elsewhere, Wessex (81-71) and Pelhams (83-75) triumphed over Braeside and New Milton respectively.
SECTION THREE
RICHMOND Park took a closely-fought win at Christchurch, with skip Vernon Dillon's rink picking up a last-end three to seal the points by just two shots (69-67).
To add some irony to the script, Dillon's opposing skip, John Waller, finished up top rink by a 24-10 margin, backed up by Graham Hicks, Spencer Williams and Mathew Dean.
Redhill Park announced their arrival in Section Three with a resounding victory (95-48) over neighbours Moordown - winning all four rinks.
Darrell Reeves (24-10) and Terry Horgan (25-13) starred for Redhill.
Southbourne A, meanwhile, overcame hosts Argyll (83-63), while Swanage proved to be too strong at home for visitors Wessex A (89-66). Kings Park left Highcliffe with an 88-77 victory.
SECTION FOUR
POOLE Park A were the sole home victors in Section Four, overcoming Poole Park B 83-77.
After last season's relegation, Knyveton Gardens A realised that life will be no easier in Section Four after succumbing to West Moors A 76-95.
A whitewash was avoided, however, when Knyveton skip Russell Foote's rink fought back in fine style to finish all square at 19-19 after trailing 19-11 on the 15th end.
Ferndown shared the rinks with Milford but had a superior score of 78-68, while Wimborne A visited near neighbours Braeside A.
Although losing on three rinks, Wimborne managed to amass 84 shots to Braeside's 76 to seal the win.
Wimborne's match-winning rink (33-12) consisted of Dave Halkins, Brian Wilkins, Terry Middleton and skip Colin Shaw.
Swanmore were also victorious when defeating New Milton A by a narrow margin (78-73).
SECTION FIVE
NEWLY-promoted Knyveton Gardens B set out their stall by trouncing Redhill A on all four rinks (82-57).
Knyveton's top rink, with a score of 23-14, was John Lee, John Scoulding, Bill Davies and Graham Broom.
Highcliffe A who came up with Knyveton, also got off to a flying start when edging out hosts Kings Park A 72-70.
Ken Hitchins's rink recorded a score of 31-16 to no avail as Highcliffe won two and tied the other rink 16-16.
Also successful on their travels were Pelhams, who nipped down the Spur Road to conquer Ringwood A 79-70 and pick up 12 points.
The East Cliff confrontation between Boscombe Cliff B and Southbourne B resulted in a comfortable win (86-70) for the Cliff.
Richmond Park A welcomed Bournemouth A and shared four rinks with the visitors. The hospitality stopped there, however, as the hosts collected 72 shots to the visitors' 65.
SECTION SIX
WEST Moors B completed three out of three for the club on the opening day when overcoming New Milton B 74-10.
Top skip for West Moors was Peter Brown (20-9), while Derek Tansley was New Milton's top man (21-14).
Iford Bridge A and Lymington A battled it out, with Lymington sailing home with the points (10-4).
The Bridge did not go down without a fight, though, and two rinks were tied, before Iford's winning rink of Roland Hill, Ron Rankin, Elfed Adams and Jeff Gunn (22-16) took things to another level.
Both relegated teams, Ferndown A and Argyll A, fared no better in this lower section when losing to Wimborne B (89-58) and Swanmore A (79-69) respectively.
After finishing one off the bottom in 2007, Branksome Park B started this year's campaign with a fine win against Southbourne C (81-63).
