Liberty blow for Hampshire

HAMPSHIRE'S hopes of retaining the Liberty Trophy were shattered 133-99 by their old adversaries Durham at Nottingham.

Although Hampshire were early 23-14 pacemakers, the Durham storm was brewing. Hampshire reached five ends 26-24 to the good but Durham scooted 61-45 clear by the 10th.

The difference quickly grew to 72-47 but at that point Hampshire dug deep and after they trimmed their deficit to 13 the revival was in full swing and the sort of finish when they pipped Norfolk last year was anticipated.

However, the Hampshire optimism was cut off in its prime as doughty Durham increased the gap and maintained it to the end.
