LEADERS Lymington maintained their momentum with a 4-2 (44-33) victory at Iford Bridge.
Rene Stanger’s rink won well for Iford (24-21) but Patsy Little, Sandy Naillard, Wendy Brown and Kay Richardson proved to be Lymos’ 23-9 match-winners.
Southbourne lost a bit of impetus after drawing at home to Poole Park (39-39). Southbourne’s Shirley Winn, Liz Messer, Jan Dearling and Sue Dadson set the target for the visitors with a 27-13 return, but this score was negated by Poole’s winning rink of Julia Eatwell, Ann Walford, Sally Rowe and Penny Cresswell (26-12).
Basement Clubs Braeside and Redhill Park both recorded 4-2 wins.
Braeside’s 44-33 victory came at home against New Milton with Sheila Watts, Joy Oliver, Jean Walter and Pat Sheppard’s 24-12 score for the hosts covering New Milton’s last-end winner Wendy Read (21-20).
Redhill’s 51-36 win was gained at Broadstone thanks to Ethel Hanlon’s dominating squad of Jennie Cooper, Margaret Colborne and Chris Smith (29-13). Lyn Howard’s Wessex girls recovered from 12-22 down to win 23-22 on the other rink.
Richmond Park dented visitors West Moors’ title hopes as home skips Eileen Deadman (20-15) and Muriel Groves (17-12) kept a firm hand on the tiller to run out 6-0 (37-27) winners.
B DIVISION
SWANMORE bounced back from last week’s defeat by picking up maximum points against Brockenhurst (58-30). The Swans were always in control as Mary Jones, Doreen Cross, Gill Head and Jenny Osbourne (24-9) combined with Rosie Lester’s quartet (26-17) to win 50-26.
Nearest rivals Argyll, at home to Braeside, also registered a 6-0 win. Norma Ritchens’ rink set the tone with an impressive (37-13) success. This was backed up by Joan Halliwell’s quartet who won 21-17.
Richmond Park crept into the top half after Ann Ankers, Ann Devine, Linda Johnson and Eileen Deadman (26-11) set up a 6-0 (43-26) win over Pelhams.
There was also a maximum at the Minster as Wimborne completed a hat-trick of wins, defeating Ferndown (43-30).
West Moors completed a set of home victories in this division with a 5-1 (32-29) victory over Broadstone.
C DIVISION
THE top-of-the-table clash between Highcliffe and Kings Park resulted in a Highcliffe victory. Castle skip Valerie Snook turned around a 13-shot deficit to win 19-15, while fellow skip Janet Emerson repelled a Kings Park fightback to survive with a 22-20 result that earned the Castle Maidens a 6-0 win.
Verwood and Bournemouth both moved ahead of Kings Park after winning against Christchurch and Lymington respectively.
Verwood returned from Christchurch with a 4-2 (37-35) success as Pat Dowling’s rink (26-13) covered Margaret Crisp’s winning effort (22-11) for the Priory.
At Meyrick Park, skips Joan Belcher (31-11) and Kris Saunders (32-13) inspired the Bournemouth Belles to a resounding 6-0 win over Lymington.
Southbourne remain in the relegation zone despite their 4-2 (37-36) win at New Milton. Carol Bridger’s quartet (25-23) did just enough with a 25-23 result to cover the New Milton winning quartet of Mary Harper (23-12).
A mid-table clash saw Fordingbridge prevail 6-0 (49-37) over near neighbours Ringwood.
D DIVISION
BRANKSOME Park resumed normal service with a 6-0 success over struggling Swanmore. Branksome skips Lola Barker (29-17) and Carol Williams (23-13) marshalled their troops for a solid 52-30 victory.
Pelhams were left in the doldrums as Kings Park sailed away with six points. Kings Park’s inspiration came from skips Diana Boreham and Joyce Clough who both registered 19-17 in their team’s win.
Milford’s progress up the league continued with two winning foursomes at Highcliffe. Margaret Jeakings, Pat Wingfield, Sheila Hall and Di Goodyear (24-16) and Joan Moss’s rink gave a stirring performance for Milford’s 45-29 triumph.
Alexandra Park gathered safety points in their 4-2 (36-33) success at Redhill Park. Bobby Saunders’s rink salvaged two points in their 21-18 win, but this was surpassed by Alex’s 18-12 overture from Elsie Weekes, Ruth Addis, Doris Singleton and Deidre Owen.
The Pelhams second string remain in the top half of the division after their 4-2 home success over Argyll.
E DIVISION
LEADERS Poole Park achieved a solid 6-0 home success against Braeside. Mo Mowlam, Muriel Coombes and Phll Wallis (28-11), supported by Gwyneth Foord’s rink (27-13), cruised in for the Lakesiders (55-24).
Richmond Park also collected maximum points with a 53-18 victory at Lymington where Richmond’s winning skips of Ann Lodge (27-9) and Trish Gray (26-9) restricted the Lymos to a total of 18 shots.
There was a welcome home victory for Broadstone against Moordown. Cath Webb’s quartet (23-18) made it six points for the Wessex girls after Vicki Miller’s squad had ground their opponents down with a 30-16 result.
Iford Bridge registered their second success of the summer, returning from West Moors with a much-needed four points. Iford’s winning rink (26-10) surpassed the 19-17 success by Moors skip Barbara Tite.
F DIVISION
Braeside punished basement club Richmond Park (50-30). Peggy Bevis’s rink (29-10) won comfortably but Braeside’s other skip Janet Young picked up two shots on the last end (21-20) to give the Carpetbaggers a clean sweep of six points.
Shelley Park suffered their own horror story as visitors West Moors cleaned up on both rinks to register a 43-24 success. Star performers for Moors were Jean Goodman, Nancy Leworthy, Pauline Jepson and Shirley Sadler (25-10).
New Milton’s second team also had success on the road, returning from Moordown with a 6-0 (49-37) victory.
G DIVISION
BARBARA Adams, Josie Cutler and Gladys Rolfe (22-18) gave Redhill Park the edge in a close match at Poole Park 4-2 (42-39). P Whitfield’s trio (21-20) denied Redhill the full quota.
It was even closer at Branksome Park, where the hosts shared the spoils with Swanmore 3-3 (37-37). Wendy Glockler’s 21-11 for the Squirrels was neutralised by the Swans’ winning skip Jo Batley (26-16).
Argyll returned from Milford-on-Sea with four valuable points after their winning blend of Jill Brookes, Emmie Drinkwater and Joan Webb (19-9) just kept them ahead of Milford skip Hilary Freeman (21-13).
