QUEENS Park won the M A Hart In-Excess Cup for the second successive season when they just got the better of Hayward Sunday League Division Two promotion rivals Tradeprice UK 3-2 at Hurn Bridge.

The holders dominated the opening stages and, after twice going close with shots from outside the penalty area, Trevor Griffin opened the scoring in the 17th minute, rising to head James Burgess’s cross past Simon Higgins in the Tradeprice goal.

Tradeprice, however, took just three minutes to get back on level terms when Dave Dick headed home a Dan Watts free kick.

There was sustained pressure from Tradeprice at the start of the second half and Queens Park goalkeeper Matt Harvey did well to steer a Daryl Williams effort round the post for a corner.

But it was Queens Park who regained the lead in the 57th minute when Griffin netted his second goal of the game with a superb 25-yard strike.

Queens Park extended their advantage 10 minutes later when the competition’s top marksman Shahram Sam-Daliri lashed the ball home at the far post.

Gary Vincent pulled one back in the 79th minute, bursting through the middle to slam an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the net, but Tradeprice were unable to wrest the trophy from Queens Park’s grasp.

Griffin received the Trophyman of Southampton man-of-the-match award from Bournemouth FA president Mike Fowler and his team-mate Sam-Daliri walked off with the leading goalscorer trophy for his nine goals in the competition.
