Cherries: James signs and Thomas completes Pompey switch

WES Thomas has joined Cherries' League One rivals Portsmouth on loan, while the Dorset club have this afternoon completed the signing of former England goalkeeper David James.

The Portsmouth News this afternoon reported that Pompey boss Michael Appleton was hopeful of completing an initial one-month deal for out-of-favour Cherries striker Thomas and the former Crawley man's move along the south coast has in the past hour been finalised.

The 25-year-old has featured just four times for Cherries this season and has failed to find the net in his past 11 appearances for Paul Groves's side - scoring just once in 22 games for the Dorset club.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper James has this afternoon completed his move to Cherries, as predicted in today's Daily Echo.

The former Liverpool stopper has put pen to paper on a deal until the end of the season after agreeing terms yesterday.

The 42-year-old linked up with Paul Groves’s squad at Goldsands Stadium and is in contention to start against Walsall tomorrow.

Shame - He's great in the 4-5-1 loan striker role! Good Luck! (if you go)

If they are paying his wages o a large % thereof then this makes sense

Next to move on - Molesley, McDermott, Stockley, Fletch ( All with 24 recall clauses)

THE CLUB MUST REDUCE ITS WAGE BILL!!!

A good League Two standard player who will do well at that level with Pompey next season.

Lucky man, no doubt he will start scoring goals again, working with a Manager that believes in attacking football.

Good move, hope it goes well. David James on board is a good thing. I reckon him and Harry will be managing the team and Paul Groves is a trophy manager. Eddie seems to be getting all these experienced people in to help ailing Groves. How the hell are we as fans meant to have faith in Groves when AFC Bournemouth have none?

I do not know where the away for 247 days came from, not me.

Wes has only scored 1 more than David James has in the last 22 matches. Give Wes the gloves and stick Jamo upfront, let's see what happens?

I very much doubt they are paying any of his wages. They are still in administration

i always go through thick and thin, work allowing that is ! tommorrow as you say will be interesting, respect needs to be paid to our former manager RIP John however if we are served up the normal sh1te that sadly i have come accustomed to then, the crowd need to be extremly vocal and show mitchell what we truly think, even the die hard away supporters at swindon last weekend where chanting groves out

Life seems to be too comfy for our players which is being compounded by a useless chairman, director of football, team manager and assistant manager.

The players appear to be earning too much and on long term contracts.

We need Harry in to sort the squad out and see the wood from the trees.

Graham Westley has gone in at Preston and has shipped out 26 players from last years squad bringing in younger players on smaller salaries and with more desire. We need to do something similar.

Players wages should be linked to performance like out in the real world.

Tom is no doubt on youtube right now looking for players to get him and his family out of trouble.

Too late for that. They are up to their necks in the brown stuff and sinking fast

He could be a good signing, but it makes a mockery of the goalkeeper we signed about 6 weeks ago. What's with another wage to find with a gate level of 5500. Good luck to Wes Thomas, good effort just unlucky in front of goal, may comeback as a goal machine!

And James will - through his legs into our net. Unless we play two keepers - then one could pass it back to the other (in standard Groves' method of keeping the ball).

Rumour has it that Eddie thinks James is his first name and Hayter his second.

Thomas scored 11 goals in 38 league games. If only Steve Fletcher had been able to score at that rate he would have played for us for 20 years, and been a club legend.

Thomas only stopped scoring after Groves decided to change the system.

James won't sort out the appalling centre back partnership we have in Elphick and Addison.
