Cherries: Groves' men kick off season at Portsmouth
9:00am Monday 18th June 2012 in Sport
By Neil Meldrum
Cherries will start the new season with a trip to south coast rivals Portsmouth.
Paul Groves's side will travel to Fratton Park on August 18, before home clashes against MK Dons and Preston.
In what looks to be a tough start to the campaign, Cherries then travel to Sheffield United on September 1.
Relegated Coventry host the Dean Court outfit on October 6, while Cherries will face Yeovil at home on Boxing Day.
After Portsmouth visit Dean Court on February 9, Groves's men bring down the curtain at Tranmere on April 27.

Or maybe not. Pompey's future is by no means certain, with numerous "premier league" salaries still on their wage bill. The one firm offer, and the pending offer from their Supporters trust, are both only sustainable if the administrator can virtually halve their current wage bill. Trouble is, he cannot give the players in question away (Tal ben Haim, Kanu, Kitson and more), and they're not backing down on what they are owed on their ridiculous contracts. On top of that, there is still the matter of getting a CVA agreed to exit administration, and HMRC have a bit of a score to settle with Portsmouth FC and various former employees of said club.Pompey will be very lucky to take their place in League One this coming season.

Sad to think that Pompey - a great Club with a wonderful tradition may well go out of business, as a student in London many years ago, saw them beat Chelsea 6 - 0 playing superb football, they won the League that Season, how the mighty have fallen. I do hope they survive and prosper ( other when they play us of course) the game would be poorer without them and their great fans. It is a prime example though of huge ambition matched with poor management and a total lack of financial control.

I think that we must be one of the favourites for either the play offs or automatic promotion

The bloke that sorts out the fixtures is clearly a scummer, away again first game (4 yrs in a row now) and away last game as well. How does that work???
