Cherries: Groves' men kick off season at Portsmouth

Cherries will start the new season with a trip to south coast rivals Portsmouth.

Paul Groves's side will travel to Fratton Park on August 18, before home clashes against MK Dons and Preston.

In what looks to be a tough start to the campaign, Cherries then travel to Sheffield United on September 1.

Relegated Coventry host the Dean Court outfit on October 6, while Cherries will face Yeovil at home on Boxing Day.

After Portsmouth visit Dean Court on February 9, Groves's men bring down the curtain at Tranmere on April 27.

Or maybe not. Pompey's future is by no means certain, with numerous "premier league" salaries still on their wage bill. The one firm offer, and the pending offer from their Supporters trust, are both only sustainable if the administrator can virtually halve their current wage bill. Trouble is, he cannot give the players in question away (Tal ben Haim, Kanu, Kitson and more), and they're not backing down on what they are owed on their ridiculous contracts. On top of that, there is still the matter of getting a CVA agreed to exit administration, and HMRC have a bit of a score to settle with Portsmouth FC and various former employees of said club.Pompey will be very lucky to take their place in League One this coming season.

Extra week off for the team, or an easy three points!

Not too worried about Pompey as they'll probably start slow with a completely new squad of randomers. However, our 2nd, 3rd, 4th games are against the 3 teams that I think are the favorites for promotion this season, and we play them again in February. We normally start slowly but it's a chance to get a few impressive results to prove that we mean business. Getting ever more excited!

Sad to think that Pompey - a great Club with a wonderful tradition may well go out of business, as a student in London many years ago, saw them beat Chelsea 6 - 0 playing superb football, they won the League that Season, how the mighty have fallen. I do hope they survive and prosper ( other when they play us of course) the game would be poorer without them and their great fans. It is a prime example though of huge ambition matched with poor management and a total lack of financial control.

Spot on again SOC, they really do have great fans. I've always had a soft spot for them and apart from the 6 points we take off them, I hope they have a good season...

I think that we must be one of the favourites for either the play offs or automatic promotion

Delighted your so confident, there needs to be a massive turnaround in our performances for that to happen. Sadly I don't share your optimism....

I hope you are right but we need to get a decent defender and someone to toughen up the Midfield first

We really do need to strengthen the defence and midfield to stand any chance of getting promotion. Just look at what is available to us at this moment. Defenders:- Cook (possibly) Zubar, Francis, Barrett, Bowles, Purches. Cook - who knows how his trial will go, Purches - will he ever play again and if so , when. Bowles - who even knows why we signed him. Midfielders - Partington, Pugh, Arter, Daniels, Fogden, Gregory, Molesley, McDermott and McDonald - of these Pugh and McDermott, there are doubts about. There are of course offers made to Cooper and Addison outstanding and I haven't included any of the young lads - who may come through.I believe that we need cover for the left back position and central defence, a ball winning midfielder and a play maker before we could challenge for the play offs..

We afcb supporters can all sympathise with Pompey's position having been on the brink ourselves on more than 1 occasion. Really hope both clubs do well next season. The bloke that sorts out the fixtures is clearly a scummer, away again first game (4 yrs in a row now) and away last game as well. How does that work???
