Cherries chairman Eddie Mitchell has scotched rumours suggesting Scott Malone is on the verge of completing a move to Millwall.

Reports in south London claimed the 21-year-old was tomorrow set to fly home from a holiday in Spain to hold talks with the Championship outfit.

It was also suggested the Midlander would undergo a medical after a deal had been struck between the two clubs – with former Cherries striker Josh McQuoid likely to return to Dean Court in a player-plus-cash deal.

However, speaking to the Daily Echo in the past few minutes, Mitchell vehemently denied the claims and said there was “no truth” to the reports.

Asked whether Malone was set to have a medical, Mitchell replied: “Not to my knowledge.”

He added: “No way in the world has anybody told me Scott is having a medical or that we have agreed a deal for him. The only communication we had was with Kenny Jackett some time ago.”

Winger Malone joined Cherries on a three-and-a-half year deal in January, following a loan spell from Wolves, for a fee believed to have been in the region of £150,000.

The 21-year-old scored six goals and contributed seven assists in 37 Cherries appearances last season.
