DANNY Hollands has warned Cherries fans they risk bringing out the best in Rhoys Wiggins if they give him a rough reception.

The Charlton Athletic duo return to Dean Court tomorrow (3pm) for the first time since they swapped Dorset for south London in the summer.

Midfielder Hollands and left-back Wiggins left Cherries in differing circumstances following the club’s play-off near miss last term.

Former captain Hollands, who made more than 200 appearances for Cherries, departed the club as a free agent after five years of service.

Cultured defender Wiggins moved to Charlton for an undisclosed fee, believed to have been in the region of £250,000, having handed in a transfer request during the closing months of last season. Cherries chairman Eddie Mitchell said he was relieved after the saga had come to an end.

Hollands received a warm welcome from Cherries supporters when the clubs met at The Valley on the opening day of the campaign, while the travelling fans booed Wiggins throughout.

The ex-Cherries pair have enjoyed fine starts to their Charlton careers and both have been ever-present in League One for the runaway leaders.

Hollands told the Daily Echo: “I was there for five years and I had some great times at Bournemouth.

“It was nice when I saw we had them first game of the season and it was great that they gave me a good reception.

“Hopefully, that will continue because when I played for Bournemouth I gave everything I had and it was a very tough decision to leave.”

However, Wiggins was not afforded such generous treatment and could come in for more of the same at Seward Stadium tomorrow.

Hollands added: “That is part and parcel of football. I thought I would have got a bit of stick and I am sure if you asked any fan, some would agree with what happened and some wouldn’t – it is the way it is on both accounts, mine and Rhoys’s.

“But while we were at the club, we both gave everything we had and had a great time.

“We both still speak about it and have both still got connections at the club.

“Hopefully, we will both get a nice reception but football fans are football fans, and we will have to wait and see tomorrow.

“I have spoken to Rhoys and I think he kind of expects a bit (of stick) now. In the first game of the season, he did get quite a bit of stick.

“Some people rise to that and some people go in their shell. Knowing Rhoysy, I think he will rise to that. But only time will tell and we will see what happens tomorrow.

“I know he enjoyed his time at Bournemouth and I don’t think he would say a bad word about the club.

“Some people will accept why he moved on and some people won’t, and it was the same in my case.”
