SHE may only be nine but Mia Cruickshank already knows what she wants in her sporting career.

“She wants to play football for Liverpool and England!” said proud mother Suzanne, who is club secretary of Longfleet Youth.

Multi-talented Mia, who also excels at cricket, athletics and tag rugby, is certainly making a name for herself in local youth football circles.

A free-scoring central midfielder, she plundered no fewer than 12 goals during Longfleet’s 19-0 win over Weysports in the Dorset Under-11 Girls’ Cup earlier this month.

Her impressive quartet of hat-tricks, which came in a seven-a-side match played over two periods of 30 minutes, took Mia’s personal haul for the season to 47.

Spearheading the victory with her devastating dozen, Mia’s exploits helped Longfleet book a place in the semi-final, much to the delight of her father Andy, who is also team manager.

However, to prove there was no favourtism, Mia was passed over for the player-of-the-match laurels, with team-mate Erin Blake earning the plaudits from Andy. Erin also got her name on the scoresheet, as did Alicia Vital, while Katie Scadding chipped in with the other five.

Shortly after watching Mia notch her 12th goal, father Andy instructed her to move back into defence where she played a part in helping Longfleet keep a clean sheet.

A member of the Dorset FA Development squad, Mia also plays boys’ football for Longfleet Lions, operating for them as a tricky and skilful left-winger.

Mia, who is predominantly left-footed, lives in Branksome and attends Branksome Heath Middle School.

She has been playing organised girls’ football since September and has scored more than 150 goals in five seasons in boys’ and girls’ football. Her 12 against Weysports eclipsed her previous best of nine.

Mia is also a keen watcher of football and has twice been to Wembley, taking in an England game and this season’s Charity Shield between Manchester United and Manchester City.

And, if she does go on to achieve her biggest goal, Mia could one day find herself walking out in the national stadium.
