THE speedway boss who helped win the 2011 Elite League and Premier League titles is backing new-look Pirates to bring more success to Wimborne Road.

Co-promoter with Poole and Glasgow, Gordon Pairman played a role in both clubs’ success stories last season.

Poole Coastal Aluminium are set to go to the tapes with the joint-youngest line-up in the top flight as they bid to emulate the treble-winning campaign of last term.

And Pairman is tipping Pirates’ class of 2012 to prove their credentials.

He said: “In 40-plus years of speedway watching, the 2011 Pirates were probably the most exciting team I have ever seen, so some might think that 2012 can’t come close. I disagree.

“We will certainly miss the huge impact that Davey Watt had as captain, but Adrian Miedzinski has the potential to replace him when it comes to points scoring.

“A fully-fit Dennis Andersson, with a year of experience of British tracks, should also increase his average, and I expect Premier League riders’ champion Sam Masters to continue his rapid climb up the speedway ladder.

“Ricky Kling should be a steal on his low average and Todd Kurtz will also be pinching points when needed.

“And then we have Chris Holder and Darcy Ward.

Matt Ford had to fight for us to retain our top two and our supporters will surely again be thrilled by their exploits.

“Whatever happens, this certainly looks like it is going to be another great year for Poole speedway.”
