CHAIRMAN Michael Fry is confident Verwood’s Potterne Park would get the green light to stage Wessex Premier football should they be in position to go up.

The Potters are currently seven points ahead at the Wessex One summit and are among the favourites to claim one of the two available promotion places.

Verwood have already taken steps to meet the required ground grading, having been advised during an inspection by Wessex League chiefs last season.

Should they finish in the top two and decide to accept promotion, the club would need to install a public address system and a pay box and also extend the concrete footpaths behind the dugouts.

However, while venues are set to be inspected during the next few weeks, clubs climbing from step six to five have until March 31 next year to complete any improvements.

Fry told the Daily Echo: “Unless anything has changed since the last ground grading meeting then everything is in hand to meet the requirements.”

Under the stewardship of manager Adie Arnold, Verwood have embarked on a 16-match unbeaten run, a sequence that has included 13 wins and three draws.

“Nobody is getting carried away,” added Fry. “We haven’t lost in the league since August and need to keep it going. Although we have got a few points in hand, a couple of clubs could overtake us if they were to win their games in hand. Adie has built a young squad and we have been very pleased with their progress.”

Verwood welcome back defender Matt Delaney for the visit of Petersfield Town tomorrow (3pm), although Charlie Gajic is a doubt with a knee injury.
