GEORGE Webb marked his Hamworthy United debut with a close-range strike in their impressive 3-1 win at Romsey.

Dave Ewen also shrugged off a back injury to grab a brace and take his tally to seven goals in four league outings since joining Hammers from Christchurch.

Ewen scrambled home the rebound to give the Dorset side a 1-0 lead in the 65th minute after Stuart Cannie had hit a post.

Ex-Cherries youth player Webb, who left Poppies to move to the County Ground, converted Ewen’s cross from close range to make it 2-0 a minute later.

Ewen then ended a frenzied purple patch for Hammers by grabbing their third in the 69th minute, before a Michael White own goal in stoppage time denied them a clean sheet.

Hammers boss Simon Browne, whose side climbed up to fifth in the Premier Division following this victory, said: “George’s goal was exactly what I asked from him.

“He got into the box and scored after breaking from midfield.

“It was George’s first game for us and he is still getting used to playing with a new group of players.

“But he played well and got better as the game went on.”

Hammers: Ackerman, Antrobus, Horlock, White, Jackson, Cannie, Crow, Webb, Murray (Spencer, 80), Ewen (Satterley, 70), Burbidge (Currell, 65). Unused subs: Robinson, Lillington.

• Ben Osborne was Christchurch’s star man as they toppled Totton & Eling 3-1 away to make it six league wins on the trot.

Striker Osborne’s close range finish from Paul Roberts’ cross fired Priory in front midway through the first-half before the hosts made it 1-1 five minutes after the break.

But Sam Griffin netted from a rebound after Osborne had been denied by the cross bar to put Christchurch 2-1 in front.

James Burden grabbed Priory’s third on the counter attack with 10 minutes left as they sealed all three points in the Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division clash.

Priory boss Graham Kemp said: “We defended well. The whole defence were brilliant. But I think Ben Osborne was outstanding for us up front.”

Priory: Kearn, Grace, Legg, Brian, Crutchley, Sanderson, Burt (Rideout, 70), Griffin (Smith, 75), Osborne (Kittle, 80), Roberts, Burden. Unused subs: Dand, Linpow.
