RINGWOOD boss Wayne Lockey was left to rue a host of missed chances as his side slipped to a demoralising 3-0 home defeat against Division One title favourites Downton.

Downton, who had toppled Christchurch in the Sydenhams Cup last week, left it late to hit the target at Long Lane, with the first of their three goals coming after 75 minutes.

Lockey said: “They hit us three times on the break and scored three goals, but we didn’t deserve to lose 3-0.

“If you look at all the other stats, we were the best side. We had 10 corners and they had none, we had 15 attempts on goal and they had four. It shows the power of confidence.”

Lockey added: “It’s a shame, but if you are not going to score goals you aren’t going to win games.

“We’re not prolific goal-scorers anyway. We need to work it out and get people in who can score.

“We have Carl Fleet, who scores 20 goals a season, but we put pressure on him to score every time.

“We created lots of chances for everyone, but they didn’t go in.

“It’s really costing us at the moment and it’s really frustrating.”
