JASON Tindall believes Cherries number one Shwan Jalal and new signing Jon Stewart can push each other on to better things.

Stewart yesterday bolstered Eddie Howe’s squad by sealing a two-year deal with the Dean Court club, as revealed on the Daily Echo website.

The former Weymouth keeper, who has spent recent seasons with Portsmouth, will now provide competition for top performer Jalal.

And Cherries assistant boss Tindall knows all about the 6ft 4in stopper, having signed him for the Terras during his time in charge of the West Dorset club.

He rates Stewart – Cherries’ ninth signing of the current campaign – as a good all-round player and thinks he and Jalal can benefit from working together under the tutelage of goalkeeping guru Neil Moss.

Asked about Stewart’s attributes, Tindall told the Echo: “He’s a very good all-round goalkeeper.

“Working alongside Shwan is going to be fantastic for him as well. We’ve seen what Shwan is all about and he was certainly the best goalkeeper in League Two last season and he is proving that he is one of the best goalkeepers in League One.

“It is only going to benefit Jon and bring him on to that next level, and I’m sure it will push Shwan a bit further as well.”

Tindall added: “I signed him as a lad when he was 18 and had just been released by Swindon.

“You’ve just got to look at Jon and you see he’s got a huge presence and, in my opinion, he’s a very good goalkeeper that’s got the potential and the attributes to play at the highest level.

“We’ve kept an eye on him and, myself and Ed, have known about Jon for quite a while. He’s been at Portsmouth and done very well there.

“We feel he’s going to be a very good signing and he fits everything we want to try to achieve at the football club. He’s young, he’s got huge potential and, hopefully, if he works hard and he’s in great hands with Neil Moss, it’s up to him how far he wants to go.

“In Shwan and Jon, we’ve got two fantastic goalkeepers and young Dan Thomas will benefit from working with them.”

First-year professional Thomas is currently sidelined with a knee injury.
