BJARNE Pedersen admitted Coventry duo Krzysztof Kasprzak and Chris Harris were “on fire” after they beat Pirates in the Elite League Pairs final at Ipswich.
KK and Bomber were in a class of their own as they reeled off five straight maximum 7-2 heat wins, including two against Poole Castle Cover, to lift the crown on Saturday.
The only time the Bees pair dropped points was in their opening outing when Peterborough’s Kenneth Bjerre headed them home.
But Niels-Kristian Iversen fell, so Coventry still won the race 5-4 under the unique 4-3-2-0 scoring system.
Pirates went into the event as defending champions after Chris Holder and Hans Andersen won at Eastbourne last year.
This time, Pedersen combined with the Aussie to finish second in the qualifiers and then beat Lakeside 7-2 in the semi-finals.
But Kasprzak and Harris had too much for the Poole pair, finishing first and second in the final.
Pedersen, speaking during a press conference, said: “Krzysztof and Bomber were on fire, so I think it was the right outcome.
“They were on the gas all night, although they had gates one and three both times we met them.
“The Pairs was an important meeting and we did what we could to try to win it, but just didn’t have the last two per cent needed to do it.
“Now it’s a case of the whole Poole team re-focusing on the Elite League title and Knockout Cup.
“The important thing is the league.
“But if we can take both, it would be brilliant.”
