Cherries: Bosses disagree on destination of points

RIVAL managers Eddie Howe and Sammy McIlroy begged to differ on the destiny of the points following Cherries’ 1-0 win over Morecambe on Saturday.

Shrimps boss McIlroy felt his side had deserved a share of the spoils, while Howe thought Cherries’ display had merited more goals than Anton Robinson’s first-half decider.

Robinson bagged his maiden strike at Dean Court when he slotted home the loose ball from just inside the 18-yard box after the visitors had failed to clear Lee Bradbury’s throw.

McIlroy said: “I was disappointed. I thought we did enough to get a point from the game. I’m not going to say we did enough to win it but it was an even game. I thought both sides tried to play on a bit of a lively pitch.

“We were disappointed with their goal because my lads complained there had been a high boot on Will Haining in the build up but the referee allowed it to stand. We hit the post and had a few close shaves and were disappointed to come away with nothing.

“It’s a hard place to come. They are second in the league and doing very well so we can take credit from it. I thought we competed well against them. Everyone was talking about the 5-0 at our place and how they were going to try to do that to us but that never looked on the cards.

“My lads rolled up their sleeves and battled with them and we’re going home a little disappointed we didn’t get at least a point.”

Asked whether he felt Morecambe had deserved a draw, Howe replied: “No, but maybe I’m biased. I didn’t think they did enough to get a point and I thought we did more than enough to get more goals.

“I thought we performed ever so well in the first half. We started really brightly and passed the ball well.

“It was a similar pattern to the Barnet game where we didn’t score and you just felt we deserved to be one or two in front at half-time.

“But we stuck to our guns. The second half wasn’t as pretty but it was effective so we were delighted with the win.

“The second half was a little bit scrappy but I still felt we had enough opportunities to make the game safe. We were disappointed we didn’t get a second goal and I didn’t think we worked their keeper enough.

“I know they hit the outside of the post but I can’t recall our keeper having a serious save to make. I thought we were fluent and I can’t praise the players highly enough.”

• Joe Partington is set to feature for Cherries’ reserves at Forest Green Rovers tonight (7pm).

Partington, who can play in central midfield or defence, could hand boss Eddie Howe a timely boost if he comes through the Combination clash.

Cherries are short of options at centre-half after captain Jason Pearce was ruled out for at least three weeks with a fractured toe.

Fellow defenders Shaun Cooper and Scott Guyett have been long-term injury victims.

Thats the the thing. So many opinions.
I text Solent on Saturday as some people said the Brett was lazy Saturday. I and many others round me thought he was great. He worked hard for the team, tracked back and didnt sulk!! Willo agreed with me. I thought we were good value. Their two animals of centre halves tried to show their muscle on Fletch and Brett early on but we won over that early doors.
Big 3 points. A draw between Notts County and Chesterfield tomorrow night will make that league table look even better!!

As a periodic visitor to the Cherries I thought that they played very well.
No sulking, good passing, good game.
Seems like "Sour grapes" to me.

Sorry Morecambe, you were beaten by a the better side on the day and had our strikers been 'on target' the score would have been higher.
Morecambe gave Cherries a good run but were never much of a threat.
It funny how these lower league sides resort to physical violence, pshing and shoving, getting as close as they dare ot the line, when the game is not going in their favour.

Our home form will be a key factor with three very tough away games coming up.
Chesterfield and Notts County are on winning runs, and a draw between them tomorrow night is probably the best result for us.
Likely to need seven wins from the remaining games to guarantee promotion.

He obviousy wasnt watching the same game as I was on Saturday.
Perhaps he needs to sit higher up in the stand and not on the touch line.

With the exception of Lincoln & Grimsby, who were both woeful beyoun belief, I thought Morecambe were pretty much the poorest visitors I've seen at DC this season. Maybe the nailed on opportunity to equalise in the 90th minute erased the performance of his team from Sammy's mind for the previous 89 mins.
3-0 would have been a fair reflection.

Mr Mc Ilroy obviously talks a good game for the press as there were so few Shrimpers fans at the game to dispute what he says.

To be honest I can't recall Shwan having to make a save so that shows how one sided it was. On another day we could have had 5!

WHAT GAME DID MR McIlroy WATCH YES HIS SIDE HAD A FEW CHANCES AND YES THEY COULD HAVE SCORED 2GOALS BUT THEN IF WE SAY THEY COULD HAVE SCORED THEN WE SHOULD HAVE SCORED ABOUT 6 OR 7 AND THEY WERE CLEAR CHANCES.WHAT I DO HAVE TO SAY IS IF BOURNEMOUTH MISS CHANCES LIKE I HAVE SEEN ON SATURDAY IF ANOTHER SIDE THAT CAN FINISH BETTER THAN MORECOME,THEN BOURNEMOUTH WILL BE IN TROUBLE AS I WAS SPEEKING TO SOME FRIENDS AFTER THE GAME THEY AGREED WITH ME SO WE MUST PUT THOSE CHANCES AWAY...............K
EEP ON GOING BOYS....OLE OLE WE ARE THE BOURNEMOUTH BOYS

its not the big boys that im worried about MR wookj1 is the small sides that bournemouth tend to strugle with but lets hope that results go our way....

Lets see,we should of been at least 3-0 up at half time. Now did Morecambe have 3 goalscoring chances in the second half to deserve a point,no.Deserve a share of the spoils? Not in a million years.Nearly as daft as the fan that text in to the football league show to say their taxi full of fans out sung the home fans.Oh well.

LOOKING FORWARD: Eddie Howe HAPPY MAN: Eddie Howe
