GOAL hero Anton Robinson felt Cherries’ revenge mission over League Two rivals Morecambe yesterday was “well deserved”.
Robinson netted his third of the season – and his first at Dean Court – to earn Eddie Howe’s promotion chasers a deserved 1-0 victory.
His finely-taken 18th-minute effort helped erase the memory of Cherries’ 5-0 drubbing by the Shrimps in December, a game Robinson was forced to miss due to injury.
“It was one of the hardest things to take,” said Robinson. “I travelled with the squad and watched the game. It is demoralising when you see things happen and can’t do anything to help the team. I’m glad we got one over them.
“It was a tough game and Morecambe are a big, physical side but I thought we did well. We defended excellently and played at the right times. We were unfortunate not to win by two or three. But we’re delighted with the win and it was a great result for us.”
Robinson’s goal was all Cherries had to show for their endeavours after they had dominated for long periods.
“I just tried to get a clean strike and get it on target,” added the Londoner. “It was my best goal so far because the others have been from goalmouth scrambles.
“The manager has given me a licence to get forward so I’ve been working hard on that part of my game. I was more defensive at the start of the season so it’s nice to see it pay off.
“I had waited a long time to get my first goal at home so it is a weight off my shoulders. Hopefully, next time I can score in front of the North Stand and celebrate with them. The supporters have been great with me since I’ve been here and I think they realise I will always give 100 per cent.”
Cherries boss Howe was full of praise for Robinson when he said: “Anton has been outstanding for us all season and has been very consistent. He just needs to add a couple more goals to his game and is gradually starting to do that.
“He is going to be a really top player. It’s all down to hard work on the training pitch so I am delighted for him.”
Howe added: “I thought we performed ever so well in the first half. We passed the ball really well and started brightly. I felt we deserved to be one or two up at half-time. We stuck to our guns in the second half. It wasn’t as pretty but it was effective so we’re delighted with the win.”

With Clownty winning as well we need all the points we can get.
Great goal by Robbo and great goal by Pitman (shame it was disallowed)
Would have liked to have seen more there but it's their loss to miss such a good game.
