OAKMEADIANS made it two wins from two in South West One East after downing Dorset rivals Swanage & Wareham 30-13 at Bestwall.

Tries from Malakai Magnus, Maiki Burenivalu, Mike Richards and Brendon Daniel, along with Jamie Tryska’s 10-point haul (two pen, two conv), saw Oaks home, despite Robert Elford’s late consolation for the hosts and Phil Graves’s boot work (two pen, one conv).

Oaks second row Will Croker, who claimed he was “jungled” in the first ruck of the match, sustaining a broken nose, said: “They played the referee well and slowed things down – it was a typical Swans performance. They put us under real pressure in the line-out and I think the forwards cancelled each other out.

“But our backs really were a class apart again.”

Swans: Marshall (D Smith, 65), Rowberry, D Elford, M Cottrell, Blackmore, P Graves, G Graves, Sheldrake (A Woodard, 61), R Elford, O Andrews, Burgess, Weld, Warren (Corsie, 28), Large, Wright.

Oaks: J Croker, Bongard, Henrickson, Hudson, W Croker, Coughlan, Davies, Richards, Bell (Mitchell, 65), Tryska, Ciriki (Burenivalu, 52), McTaggart (Korabai, 52), Samuels, Magnus, Daniel.

Wimborne kicked off their Southern Counties South campaign with a convincing 32-17 win at Bradford-on-Avon.

Russell Tinsdale’s new-look outfit were forced to come from behind on Saturday, however, after the hosts raced into a 10-0 lead after just 20 minutes.

But tries from Steve King and Jim Brokenshire saw the All Blacks level the scores before Brokenshire’s second and a five-pointer from James Mikolajewski made it 20-10 at the break.

The home side pulled the score back to 20-17 soon after the restart, though, following debutant Dan Wale’s sin-binning for persistent infringement.

However, Mikolajewski’s second and third tries, along with Nick Bolton’s conversion, saw Tinsdale’s charges pull away for the victory.

Wimborne: Unwin, R Brokenshire, Tinsdale, Davies, Hawkins, Coulling, Wale, O’Bryan, Llewellyn, Mikolajewski, van Wyk, Griffith, J Brokenshire, King, Maltman, Busby, Jordan, Bolton.

North Dorset edged a close encounter at Dorset rivals Sherborne 20-18 to get their Southern Counties South season off to a positive start.

Despite having to come from behind against a spirited Sherborne outfit, Jon Hooper’s late try and Simon Keates’ conversion eventually saw North home.

Keates had earlier added a penalty, with David Stickland and Richard Mitchell North’s other try-scorers.
