Dolphins striker Austin out to impress Cherries

PROLIFIC striker Charlie Austin is set to take on Cherries tonight – fresh from declining a move to AFC Totton.

The Poole Town star has not been short of potential suitors in recent months.

Blue Square South side Eastleigh submitted an offer for him and Bashley also showed an interest, while AFC Totton, who play one level above Poole in the Southern League, this week made a fresh approach.

But Dolphins boss Tom Killick was delighted to reveal that the teenager has opted to remain at Tatnam – for now.

He told the Echo: “The reality is that I think if he’s going to go up one league he’d possibly rather stay here, then try to get into that league with us.

“He’d like to get up one or two more levels and I think he could do that.”

Austin netted 46 goals last term and his fine form earned him a trial at Cherries.

But with manager Eddie Howe deciding not to pursue his interest, Austin has the perfect opportunity to impress the Dean Court boss this evening.

Previewing Cherries’ trip to face Poole in tonight’s pre-season friendly (7pm), Killick added: “I’m hoping that we provide a reasonably competitive game for Bournemouth, one that they think was a worthwhile exercise.

“We’re very grateful to them for coming down and we want to make it an occasion that they find worthwhile.”
