Cherries: Murry blown away by Jacobs' gesture

A GENEROUS Cherries fan has done his bit to help the club’s new owners – and he is encouraging other season ticket holders to do the same.

Nick Jacobs, a Cherries follower since 1968, took up the option of a half-price season ticket renewal when then owners Sport-6 made the special offer in December.

But with a new hierarchy now at the helm, the 55-year-old was quick to pay up the remaining 50 per cent to help boost the Cherries coffers and show his support for the men in the Dean Court corridors of power.

“The previous owners made a very generous offer of 50 per cent off season tickets and I was one of 800 to take it up,” explained Mr Jacobs, of Wareham.

“I only ever considered it a down payment.

“We’ve got new owners now and it’s a gesture to the new owners because I’m paying the other half for them.

“They put their money on the table and they are going to take control, and I think it’s a nice gesture from me.

“I feel like I’m buying a half-price ticket from the new owners. The money I paid before has gone.”

Mr Jacobs, who sits in the North Stand, would like to see other supporters follow his lead – on a voluntary basis and depending on their personal financial situations.

He told the Echo: “I think these guys deserve a chance and I feel season ticket holders who took the option could give help by paying.

“After all, we wouldn’t be here without these guys.”

Cherries director of operations Adam Murry said: “We’re overwhelmed by the support and by the gesture, and it is greatly appreciated.”

Following the recent takeover by the Murry Group, Cherries’ season tickets for the forthcoming League Two season were put on sale on June 22.

As of Thursday afternoon, the club had sold 1,234 season tickets and holders have until July 24 to secure their seat from last season.

Applications can be made in person at the club shop, over the phone on 01202 726338 or by post. For full details visit www.afcb.co.uk

A fantastic gesture from Mr Jacobs. Personally I didn't but a half price ST because I wanted to pay full price this summer (just brought my ticket last week actually).

No one who purchased a half price ST should be obliged to pay the other half, we are customers after all. However it's a brilliant gesture towards helping the club back on it's feet should anyone choose to.
