ANTON Robinson is flourishing in his favoured position – and he’s in no mood to let injury spoil his run in the Cherries side.

The former Weymouth captain limped out of Saturday’s draw against Port Vale with a dead leg, putting his place in doubt for this evening’s League Two trip to Exeter City.

He is set to overcome the injury in time to feature, though, and he’s even more determined to do so because he has been given the chance to demonstrate his abilities in midfield.

Robinson did an excellent job filling in as a makeshift right-back when manager Eddie Howe found himself without the likes of Joel Ward, Lee Bradbury and Shaun Cooper.

But with utility men Bradbury and Cooper both fit again and more at home in defence, Robinson has played the past two matches further forward, where he is more comfortable.

“I played on the left wing on Saturday and I’ve played there before, so I’m a bit more comfortable there,” he told the Echo.

“I prefer central midfield but, wherever the gaffer wants to play me, he knows I’ll give it 100 per cent.

“I was a bit gutted when I came off, but it was painful.

“Hopefully I’ll get another chance at Exeter if the gaffer decides to put me in.”

Robinson passed a fitness test yesterday morning to put himself in contention for the St James’ Park match, and it is a ground the 23-year-old knows well.

“I signed non-contract terms under Alex Inglethorpe and was there for three months,” he explained.

“It was a good time and I enjoyed it there, it was quite a nice club.

“It will be a hard place to go and win, but we need the three points.”

If fully fit, Robinson is expected to keep his place in the Cherries midfield alongside in-form pair Danny Hollands and Mark Molesley.

Marvin Bartley is rated “50-50” after suffering a heavy knock to a foot on Saturday.

But perhaps most worrying of all, Cherries legend Steve Fletcher could miss out.

The 36-year-old targetman is struggling with a knee problem due to the high volume of |matches he has played since returning to the club from Crawley Town.

“He’s had a lot of Saturday-Tuesday games for a long time and ideally he’d need a rest,” said boss Howe.

Should Fletcher not feature, Jeff Goulding and Alan Connell would come into the equation as possible partners for top scorer Brett Pitman.

For Exeter, defender Steve Tully (knee) and young forward Ben Watson (calf) are both likely to miss out.
