LIAM Feeney is vowing to bring an exciting approach to his play after landing his “massive” move to Cherries.

The skilful winger, who can also play up front, secured a two-and-a-half year deal with the Dorset club on transfer deadline day.

The London-based former Salisbury City star is in contention to make his debut against Shrewsbury Town at Dean Court this afternoon (3pm) – weather permitting.

And he is confident about successfully making the transition from Conference to League Two football.

He told the Echo: “It’s a massive move for me going to a big club like Bournemouth, everyone wants to play for a club like this and I’m delighted that I’m here.

“I had a loan spell at Southend earlier in the season and didn’t play as much as I’d have liked there.

“But I’m confident I can make the step up. It’s only one division and hopefully I can help out.

“I like to get at defenders, I’m quite quick and I like to put balls in the box. My first aim is to try to get in the squad, then try to get in the team, then push on.”

He added: “I’m based in London, but I’ll be moving down. Bournemouth is a really nice area and I’m looking forward to my time here.”

Cherries manager Eddie Howe brought Feeney in, along with Weymouth captain Anton Robinson, on a busy day of transfer activity ahead of the closing of the January window.

He is pleased with both acquisitions, especially as Feeney offers options in wide areas as well as having the ability to play in attack.

“Anton and Liam have come in and they’ve been very impressive in training, so I’m delighted with them both,” said Howe.

“They’ve got great attitudes and they’ve settled in really well.

“They bring the ability to run, youth, exuberance, and they can play as well.

“Liam will be a direct wide player and I can also play him up front.

“He’s certainly quick, he’s got a trick and gets the odd goal, so he’ll be a good asset.”
