BOSS Eddie Howe has reinstated Shwan Jalal as Cherries’ number one after withdrawing teenage loan goalkeeper David Button from the firing line.

Jalal will return when Cherries resume their relegation battle at home to Shrewsbury on Saturday – following the postponement of tonight’s trip to Dagenham & Redbridge.

The 25-year-old made way after Howe drafted in Button on a month’s loan from Spurs and has watched Cherries’ past four games from the bench.

But he has earned a recall after Button, 19, paid the price for dropping a couple of costly late clangers during Cherries’ agonising 3-3 draw at Lincoln.

Button was at fault as Lee Beevers and Lee Frecklington both netted in the closing stages as Cherries squandered two potentially crucial points in their battle to avoid the drop.

Howe told the Daily Echo last night: “I’ve been very impressed with Shwan’s attitude recently and have absolutely no hesitation in bringing him back.

“I brought in David because I needed some competition for places and he is a very good young goalkeeper.

“I know he has made a couple of mistakes, but everything else about his game is excellent and he is destined for a big future.

“Goalkeeping errors are always accentuated because they often cost you and that is a harsh reality of their position.

“Outfield players tend to get away with more because their mistakes don’t get highlighted anywhere near as much.

“Although David rightly takes the criticism for his mistakes at Lincoln, both incidents could have been avoided if outfield players had made different choices.

“I am sure David will come back stronger for his experience and I want him to keep the pressure on Shwan now.”

Jalal has kept eight clean sheets in 29 league and cup appearances since joining Cherries on a free transfer from Peterborough at the start of this season.

However, neither Jalal nor Button has managed a shut-out on the road, with Cherries shipping 31 goals in 14 league games on their travels.
