ADAM Batchelor has thrown his support behind Alex Browne after dubbing the new Wimborne Town boss as a "perfect" appointment.

Former Weymouth and Dorchester Town star Browne was named as Christer Warren's successor on Monday.

As part of the announcement, Magpies director Paul Miller confirmed that Warren's number two, Batchelor, would be continuing in his role alongside Browne.

Batchelor met Browne prior to Tuesday night's training session and he is hoping to build a good relationship with the new manager, who fought off strong competition for the vacancy from former Cherries player Gary Borthwick.

"I just want to support Alex to the best of my abilities," said Batchelor.

"It has all happened so quickly but Alex came in on Tuesday. He was introduced to the players and it was all very positive.

"I met him briefly earlier in the week but Tuesday was the first time I'd really met him and had a chance to chat with him."

Batchelor believes 35-year-old Browne, who will also continue his distinguished playing career with Wimborne, will prove to be a success.

He said: "He's somebody who has good experience and the style of player he is means he's perfect for what Wimborne want.

"He has unquestionable leadership qualities on the pitch and he's only going to take that into his managerial career."

Asked whether he thought Browne would aim to keep the side playing attractive football, which Miller alluded to as a key factor in the new boss getting the job, Batchelor said: "I think time will tell and he'll make his own judgement based on the sort of players we've got.

"That's very much down to him now."

The assistant manager revealed the club's squad were on their "best behaviour" for Browne's first training session, as they prepare for Saturday's FA Vase tie against Wootton Bassett Town at Cuthbury.

He said: "They tucked their shirts in and pulled their socks up.

"The first few weeks are always a bit reserved because everyone's dipping their toe in the water.

"But he's a good fellow and very honest and he says it how he sees it."
