WIMBORNE captain Russell Tinsdale labelled his side’s 35-17 collapse at Corsham as the club’s “worst defeat in years.”

Steve King and Paul Roberts scored tries while James Mikolajewski also went over and was successful with one conversation as they led 12-0.

But Corsham hit back strongly to triumph comfortably in the Southern Counties South clash in Wiltshire.

Tinsdale said: “It was the worst display in years from us. Even at 10-0 up we just didn’t gel.

“It is one of those performances we have to sweep under the carpet and move on.”

Wimborne: Tinsdale, Murphy, Lynch (Unwin 55), Davies, Hopkins, Coulling, Napier, Morgan, Wareham (Llewellyn 70), Roberts, Griffith, Lennon, King, Mikolajewski (Chapman 65), Maltmant.

  • Oakmeadians’ James Croker threatened to weld the axe after they slumped to a first league defeat of the season, 29-3 at Frome in Southern Counties South.

He said: “We suffered several injuries in the warm up and during the match but that didn’t mean we didn’t have the players to do the job.

“Our seconds beat Salisbury 85-5 so we’re looking at that. Maybe we’ll reward the guys in the twos who were outstanding.

“Some of the first team could unfortunately be left out as a consequence of one poor performance, but that’s what a squad system is all about.”

Fijian Malakai Magnus, expected to make his Oaks debut, missed the defeat because of an injury.

Oakmeadians: Collins (Hymers 1), Kurawaki, Landis, Stephens, Tait, Tryska, Harman, Smith, Atkins, Blackburn (Riley 40), W Croker, Hudson, Stradwick, McMahon (Hicks 40), Hokianga.

  • Swanage and Wareham skipper Rob Elford was relieved after they ended a three-match losing streak by beating Henley Wanderers 15-5.

Mike Cottrell and Charlie Rowberry grabbed tries and Phil Graves kicked one penalty and one conversion.

Elford said: “We knew it would come, but it was a relief ahead of our EDF Energy Trophy first round home clash against London League One Shelford on Saturday.”

Swanage and Wareham: Leak, Rowberry, P Graves, M Cottrell, C Parish, D Elford, Harrris, O Andrews, R Elford, Sheldrake (Woodard 65), Penney, Burgess, Warren, McConkey (Harwood 65), Wright. Unused sub: Gould.
