MAIKI Bunny' Burenivalu ran in five tries on his Oakmeadians debut but coach James Croker didn't feel the England Sevens player was the star in an 81-5 romp over Sherborne.

The Fijian-born three-quarter was a class act on his Southern Counties South bow for the ambitious Meyrick Park club.

As Oaks supporters left the ground most of them were talking about Burenivalu's spectacular 70-metre solo effort in which he ran past all 15 Sherborne players to touch down in the first half.

But Croker said: "Don't get me wrong, he is an outstanding player and they were all outstanding tries, but you are only as good as the guys outside you.

"Bunny turned in a great display, but I thought our three most outstanding performances came from Adam Hudson, Will Croker and Ollie Hare."

Asked if he was confident, with Burenivalu in Oakmeadians' line-up this term, that their season wouldn't become a one-man show, James Croker added: "Yes I am.

"Our three outside backs got nine out of 12 tries, with Ollie and Will Drummond getting two apiece, so that says it all.

"It just so happens Bunny got five on his debut."

Talking about Burenivalu's 70-metre solo touchdown, the coach said: "Sherborne's number 10 was kicking quite loosely and obviously Bunny slotted in at full back.

"He kicked down Bunny's throat and gave him space to run into.

"It was a 70 metres try. He just ran it back at pace.

"I thought his best try was his last try though when he kicked the ball forward, caught it, released it, it went through three pairs of hands before he finished the move off.

"So it was not a one-man show, far from it.

"Ollie and Will, our outside centre and winger, scored two tries apiece and the fact those guys are finishers who are getting ball in space is great.

"Bunny was just the end product of everyone working hard together.

"The front five had an outstanding game, no one player in particular, but they all gave us a massive platform to score 12 tries, which you can't do without that platform."

James Croker, whose side led 26-5 at the break, added: "You can never expect to score five tries and win 81-5.

"You can just expect to win comfortably if everything we have been working towards is put into place.

"In the first half we were a bit too loose and tried to play in front of their defence rather than penetrate it and get behind.

"We then had a very good second half performance which was pleasing."

Oaks' other tries came from Tim Flower (two) and Chris Hicks, with Jamie Tryska adding 21 points with his boot.
