Watt plans to ride next week

DAVEY Watt has given Pirates a big play-off boost by squashing speculation he had been ruled out for the rest of the season through injury.

Misleading reports in the press in some of Wednesday's national newspapers suggested the injured Poole Castle Cover heat leader would not be riding again this term.

But Watt, who sustained ligament damage in his right foot in a crash at Peterborough on Monday, told the Echo: "I don't know where that come from because I'm planning to ride at Poole next week."

Watt sat out Pirates' crushing 59-34 home Elite League win over title rivals Ipswich but was able to help out in the pits.

After watching his team-mates bounce back from a 47-43 reverse at the Showground, he said: "I saw my physio today and he's quite confident everything will be okay with my foot so I can ride in a week's time.

"It's just a case of being careful with it. Not doing anything too much, not do anything at all.

"I don't like sitting around too much, but I won't overdo it. I'll take my time and be careful with it."

Watt, who had his foot heavily strapped and held it high for most of the evening to stop blood going towards the wound, continued: "I have to go back to the physio on Friday.

"He said today he's quite confident it will be well and truly healed enough so I can ride next Wednesday here.

"It's ligament damage between the bones. They've been stretched and shaken about a bit by the impact of being caught in Lukas Dryml's back wheel.

"It's not a really pleasant thing but it's a lot better than my foot being broken and having to sit things out for a long time.

"I'm definitely not out for the season.

"I'm going to be riding next Wednesday in the Draper Tools' Four-Team Tournament.

"That's my goal, and if it's not next Wednesday, it will be only days after that.

"I'll be very surprised if I can't ride next Wednesday.

"I hadn't actually planned to ride next week. I was originally planning to have some time off.

"But that has been put off because I'm having my time off now.

"I want to do some testing next week to make sure I have my equipment right because we have some trophies to win."
