CHERRIES are today expected to complete the signing of Brentford striker Alan Connell.

Connell is set to rejoin Cherries, coming in as a straight replacement for Bristol Rovers-bound Jo Kuffour.

It is understood Cherries have agreed a deal with Brentford for the 25-year-old, who made 54 appearances for the Dorset outfit between 2002 and 2005.

He is expected to link up with Kevin Bond's squad tomorrow and also undergo a medical. Connell is likely to be in contention to start against Port Vale on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Kuffour looks set to finally complete his move to Bristol Rovers later today.

Really not convinced Connell is the answer. He played when S. Fletch, Hayter and Holmes up front. Pitman and Sappleton will not provide him with the type of ball he likes. Since he left us, he has not played at any higher level than presently and why are clubs always willing to let him go? Not convinced but hope i am proven wrong

He left the club because he wasen't getting first team football with the likes of Hayter, Fletcher and Rodrigues in the side. I personally think with some people saying that a few players we have brought into the club this summer are not good enough and don't seem so interested in wearing our shirt with pride, you can be sure Connell will be doing just that. He's scored some goals in this league which is more that we're getting at the moment with the likes of Pitman and un-proven striker's Sappletton and that Craig Linfield. Hope this story is true, Common you reds.

Alan Connell Alan, Alan Connell Alan.

Well, here we go again!! Another poor quality signing!!!. The question is why did Hereford and Brentford release him????? After all both of these clubs played in League Two and he certainly did not make any kind of impact whatsoever with them!!

It's enough to drive anybody to a nervous breakdown!! Come back John Benson all is forgiven!! - Yes the John Benson era is once again upon us!!!

Exactly why have we signed him ???. Answer - because it is another cheap option and that he is a striker and that he was avialable!! It's makes me spew!!

I cannot believe some of the misguided reponses to my post yesterday!!. Can you people actually see what is happening at the club?? What I said yesterday is actually happening. I t is ther fir all to see. Why do you all seem to want to drift into denial and close your eyes to what in blatently in front of you???????????

At least there are one or two posters who actually can see my point of view.

So with the points ratio taken into account and the games we have already played we have in relaity played nine games with only two points gained!! Please tune yourselves in folks!!!

Before wingeing about Connell signing it might be a good idea to remember our circumstances . We are a skint league 2 side fresh out of admin and carrying a 17 point deficit . We have scored just 1 goal in 2 lge games & last seasons top scorer is on his way through the door as i key this . Connell might not be a world class player but then their not queing up to join us , are they ? One things for sure though he,ll put in twice the work of Pitman & more likely get double figures on the goal front !

Alan connell has actually hit double figures just once in five years as a pro and that goal haul was 12. he's actually scored 36 goals in 163 pro games, hardly prolific!

Would be great if he is the find of the season. with regard to the earlier post about not being able to sign quality players because the club has just come out of admin and the fact were apparently skint, well how come rotherham seem to be signing decent players left right and centre?? Mark Robins seems to be doing a good job of motivating his troops it has to be said. So on that basis the idea that we've a seventeen point reduction and were apparently skint and we've just come out of admin in my mind is a poor excuse for us not to be able to sign quality players and is ceratinly no excuse for us not to string some positive results together.

There is a great difference between a club here in he south and a club up north. Dare I say the fans are more dedicated too and don't forget that this is the second time for Rotherham so you are not quite comparing like for like though I take your point.

I know we are all getting on the backs of Sport 6 but it has to be said so far its been a complete shambels, all they've had to offer us so far is a sponsorship deal with Cabrini, who actually seem to be sponsoring half the football league this season, signing a hand full of loan players and the highly lucrative 20/20 criket at DC, what a success that was. All in all a pretty poor show. Let me ask you all a question, if you had your own company, would you get sport 6 to arrange the marketing for you?? I rest my case.

I wouldn't want to make such a judgment at this early stage though one would question who in their right mind would wish to get involved in a club with a millstone around their necks and not even own the ground on which they play football. Retrospectively the selling of the ground was the biggest mistake ever made no matter how plausible the arguments were for doing so.

It's hardly going to attract any big names is it? It's a miracle we didnt lose more players over the summer. Connell was a good player for us first time around and I think he will be again. Sure i read somewhere that Knight had gone to Rushden. Bit of a step down.

Brentford have not released Connell but he is unhappy as he can not get in the team but has been on the bench for most of the games. Says something when a goal scoring striker can not get into a team. You have to ask yourself why? Could be he is not good enough for Brentford. Is he good enough for Bournemouth?

Saw his wedding pictures in the Echo a short while ago which I believe may have been taken locally, so lets start by making him welcome and giving him the incentive to do well with his present team mates. Pitman and connell will work well together. The manager needs to sort out a formation and style of play rather than keep changing around. How is brett or anyone else supposed to score loads of goals when he's played out of position at left midfield just so we can fit in 3 centre midfielders.
We need to move Anderton Wide, play 2 up front and get players to fit in around our style and formation rather than picking the players and then trying to sort out a formation to suit them.
Connell is hard working and will try hard and he and Brett as a pair could well get 30 goals but nobody in our squad is a lone front man, especially with the likes of igoe, marvin or danny as the main support players....and don't even get me started on big 'Ricky'...what is he supposed to be good at?

Not true. He played a few games for Torquay was too lightweight scored a few goals in a team going into Blue Square ended up in their reserves and was shunted out of Torquay on a free transfer.Regarded as one of the worst signings by Torquay supporters.
We have gone from one striker to potentially five strikers in a fortnight and all of them but Kuffour are rubbish.
Its not quantity we need, its a target man who can lead the line. Connell is too lightweight.

What is the difference between a successful team and a relegated team?
A successful team at our level is one that generally uses less than twenty players in a season and has consistency of selection.
Relegated teams invariably use more than thirty players in a season with constant chopping and changing of players and positions.
After three games this season I leave it to you to decide which category we fall into......and that is before we even start thinking about the 17 point penalty.

Excellent signing. We shouldn't have let him go but he needed to play more regularly. He was very good when he first broke into our side, only curtailed by injury and then couldn't force Hayter and Fletch out of the team - most strikers at our level would have struggled with that task. Although he hasn't set the world alight since leaving it will be almost like a homecoming for him and he will be desparate to make up for lost time. Everyone needs to give him their total support and get off Pitman's back too - he's shown a lot of improvement and just needs to start finding the net a bit. Corr would be very useful if we can get him. He was sensational at Dean Court last year - the best performance I've seen by any striker here for a number of years. Things haven't gone too well since but alongside Connell we could have a strong front 2. The only negative is a lack of pace - has Wagstaff got any from midfield? Maybe 1 more loan or free on the other flank with a bit of pace could be called for.

Last season's late revival? Vokes , Gradel, so tricky and scoring goals and Danny. In 2 weeks time when he's fit we'll have 1 out of 3. Brett Pitman won't run, is afraid of the physicals and needs a front man to give him the Glory. Bench at best. We'll get Sappleton fit and he'll return to Leicester. We need a big front man and then Connell might just be OK. At least we got rid of Gowling - Mr 100% concentration - not!
Assuming Sport 6 have no dosh , the only way out is to get really organised and make the opposition struggle for everything. Is KB capable of that? If not it's Blue Square time and I'll be there. Talking to the Carlisle supporters it's not all doom & gloom. Then there's Hereford, Aldershot, etc & Doncaster, albeit with their millions. If, however, Sport 6 are serious they must say goodbye to KB and take a punt with a hungry novice.
I'm not being negative. Someone with a pot of money is out there and we will come back. Keep the faith.

I think connell will prove a good signing and will give his all for the club it would be nice to see more so called supporters getting behind the team rather than negative posts on anything and everything that happens i will continue to support the cherries whatever division we are in !!!!!

Quality if you ask me and played his heart out for us before and will do the same again.

For those who don't agree then let them but when he came on the first time for us he was a livewire and thats what we need. The likes of Hollands and Anderton giving him service I think we will do okay.

He plays for the badge and whoever plays for the badge will succeed.

Play 4-3-1-2 with Connell and Lingfield up front and Sappleton just behind and we will get goals. Forget 1 up front cos we are chasing points and go for it.

COME ON BOYS, KEEP THE FAITH AND DO IT, AS I KNOW I AM, I;M SURE I AM, I'M BOURNEMOUTH TILL I DIE.

Alan Connell has done well at this level for Torquay, Hereford and Brentford and has more experience now than when he was here as a kid. I think it's a good signing if it happens, his manager at Brentford said in their local paper today that he's going nowhere. Would be a huge own goal for Sport 6 if it didn't happen now that they've announced it!
Absolutely, Webby - I live 5 mins from Griffin Park and I've seen him play a few times for Brentford. I've been impressed, I must say. I think people on here will be pleasantly surprised - Alan's full of tricks and will prove to be a good addition to the team. Don't judge him too much on when he was here last as a kiddie. Too many people are too quick to slag off anything to do with the club at the moment. Here's an idea - let's just wait and see first before we start on the character assassinations shall we everybody??

Another one of your inspired posts, especially as he is now a cherries player again, any more predictions for us?

Sounds about right to me, why so many can't wait to slag the club off over anything and everything is beyond me, he could well be a great signing for the club, it's about time people started to support the team, far too much negative stuff on here it's a disgrace!!!

Why did we not go in for Leon Knight? he is a very good striker I know he must be a bit of a trouble maker as a lot of clubs have got rid off him but still he is got to be better than Connel and he would have been a free transfer!
We couldn't afford his nose-candy bill...
