Watt slams Vojens track

DAVEY Watt believes the World Team Cup final should have been called off after claiming the wet Vojens track was too dangerous.

Asked if he felt yesterday's event would have been postponed, Watt said: "Yes, I don't even think we would have left our hotels by the time it would have been cancelled.

"It was ridiculous the meeting went ahead. The track just had holes and ruts everywhere. It was like riding through a minefield.

"You were just getting thrown all over the place. When you weren't getting thrown all over the place you were struggling to stay on the bike because it was so slippery.

"I couldn't see anything because so much shale was getting sprayed up into my face during races.

"It was a disaster, the track was absolutely ridiculous.

"It rained in Denmark all day on Thursday and Friday. It was my first time around here and what a disaster it was.

"I'm a bit frustrated with the way my meeting went. I crashed twice, had problems with the bike, anything that could go wrong went wrong."

Watt, who struggled to get three points from six rides as Australia trailed in last behind winners Denmark, second-placed Poland and Sweden, added: "We just didn't adapt to the situation and track conditions like the Danes. Full credit to them. They deserved to win and were definitely too good."

Talking about the tricky track conditions, Denmark's Bjarne Pedersen, perhaps diplomatically, said: "You have to look at riders' safety first, but when there are nearly 20,000 people in the stadium it isn't easy to call a meeting like this off.

"I think they did a pretty good job to get it on after the amount of heavy rain we've had in Denmark last week."

Thankfully, Pedersen, Watt and their Pirates team mate Chris Holder left Vojens uninjured - Aussie Holder only after he had emerged from an awful heat 12 crash unscathed when his bike violently reared up at top speed.
