Daniel targets a quick return

INJURED Pirate Daniel Davidsson believes he will be fit for their trip to Wolves on Monday.

The unfortunate Swede was forced to pull out of Poole Castle Cover's 55-37 home win over the Black Country outfit on Wednesday with a soft tissue neck injury.

Davidsson took a heavy tumble on the fourth bend while trying to go outside Kenneth Hansen in heat two.

He was temporarily blinded by shale shooting up off the Wolves' rider's back wheel and ploughed into the safety fence.

Davidsson said: "Just as we were about to go into turn three, the dirt came up off his wheel and showered me in the face.

"My view was completely obscured. Everything went blank. I couldn't see a thing.

"That was the main reason I fell off. I couldn't take my tear-off off because I was going round the corner when you need both hands on your bars.

"I couldn't see where I was on the track and was just waiting for the fence to catch me. The track doctor told me I had damaged the muscles between my neck and shoulder and I had to withdraw.

"It's just sore, nothing is broken and I'm having physio and massage on it in Sweden.

"My next meeting is on Monday at Wolves so I'll have a few days off to rest and I'm hoping it won't be a problem."

Davidsson, who had been aiming to follow up impressive six and nine point hauls with another decent total, added: "I couldn't lift my arm or turn my neck properly, so there was no way I could go out and ride again.

"When you are on track, you're putting your arms to work all the time and you have to be able to turn your head.

"I could probably have tried but might have ended up making the problem worse. It was much better to rest it.

"If you're not 100 per cent fit, I don't think you should ride for safety reasons. Not just my safety, but the safety of all us riders.

"Fortunately, Magnus (Zetterstrom) was on fire all night. He was able to cover for me.

"The worst bit was I'd had a decent meeting against Peterborough and a good one at Ipswich and I'd been really looking forward to Wednesday night's.

"But the crash took the wind out of me. I was so disappointed I couldn't ride more.

"Hopefully I will come back fighting. I can't do myself down because of one fall.

"I just have to go to Wolves on Monday and ride the same way as I have been doing recently.

"It wasn't a hard knock, so I should be okay."
