PIRATES chief Matt Ford has been left reeling by Davey Watt's late call up into a Grand Prix qualifier in Germany on Monday.
It means Watt will miss Poole Castle Cover's league trip to his former club Eastbourne the same night.
Watt received the call to replace injured Theo Pijper, the Dutchman, late yesterday.
The Australian, fortunate to get the place after electing to miss his national championship over the winter, lines up in GP qualifying round one at Abensberg while Poole are at Arlington.
Ford said: "Davey rang and said you're not going to like this' and he's right.
"I know people have to look after themselves with these things, but it's just bad timing for us.
"That's no reflection of Davey. He has been very loyal to us the whole time.
"But we seem to lose out on track specialists going back to former clubs this season. It happened with Adam Skornicki at Belle Vue and Wolves, with Karol Zabik at Peterborough and now Davey.
"We'll just go to Eastbourne and do the best we can."
Ford would not divulge the outcome of talks with injured Zabik yesterday, but confirmed Poole would use rider replacement for Watt at Arlington.
Jordan Frampton will replace injured Zbigniew Suchecki against Eastbourne.
