LUCKLESS Swanage and Wareham skipper Robert Elford has his fingers crossed that he won't be sidelined through injury for the rest of the season.

He sustained medial knee ligament damage during their 23-10 win at Windsor which boosted Swans' South West Two East promotion hopes.

Elford was carried off after Charlie Parish and Chris Tomes had scored tries for Swans and Phil Graves had added two penalties and two conversions to give them a 20-10 lead.

Graves slotted over one more penalty, but the gloss was taken off victory by Elford's injury.

The captain said: "I have my right knee in a brace as we speak.

"We don't know how serious it is. It was a twist of the knee. My knee was planted in the ground.

"There was no movement in the foot. I went down on the knee which twisted it."

Elford added: "It is early days. The physio was there on the spot and said it was fairly serious.

"I don't know how long I'll be out. It could be the end of my season or it could just be two weeks.

"It is swollen and I'm having ice treatment. It's touch and go for a while and I have my fingers crossed.

"It's frustrating because with Chippenham losing for the second game in a row we are only one point off the top of the table.

"The title race is certainly hotting up. It's disappointing I could be out of the scene for a while but we'll see what happens."
