CONFIDENT Philip Billing insists Cherries are “looking up the table” following their vital victory over Brighton, adding there is “no chance am I getting two relegations in a row”.

Billing was part of the Huddersfield Town team that slumped to a rock-bottom finish of the Premier League last season, registering just three wins and 16 points from their 38 matches.

He completed a £15million move to Cherries in the summer and has featured in all-but two top-flight matches this term.

Eddie Howe’s men remained in the bottom three on Tuesday night despite the 3-1 win over the Seagulls lifting them onto 23 points, but Billing is keen to focus on the positives.

Asked how determined he is personally to avoid back-to-back relegations, the midfielder told the Daily Echo: “We ain’t getting relegated this season, no chance am I getting two relegations in a row.

“I’ll make sure, no chance.

“Now we’ve got a win and hopefully we can just build on this but relegation is not anything we’re looking at, we’re looking up the table.

“Obviously it’s been a few bad weeks, but still 14 games to go, plenty of games so we just go game by game and start picking up points.”

He added: “I’m confident. Not at any point has there been a bad mood at the training ground, even though it’s been bad results.

“Of course we were a bit down, but we trained hard every week, up to every game we train hard and with intensity so it’s just been on luck really.

“We haven’t been able to score in a few games and maybe not created enough.

“On Tuesday we had the luck and the quality and we just have to keep going, that’s all we can do. Stay positive, don’t look back, look forward and we’ve got 14 games left.”

Music could be heard blaring from the home dressing room following the win against Brighton and Billing believes the closeness of the squad has kept spirits high.

Asked what the overriding emotion was among the group after the win, the 23-year-old said: “Joy. Relief of course because we had the three points, but we knew it was going to come at some point.

“We knew if we keep it together and show the quality in the squad, then it will come.

“Of course people see it from the outside, they don’t see how hard we work behind closed doors and they only see 90 minutes of what we do on the football pitch and sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. That’s the game.

“We just keep going, we stay focused, we don’t listen to whatever the pundits say and whoever has given up on us, we believe in ourselves, in the squad and that’s all we can do.

“We’re tight, like a family, we just stay positive and I’m confident we will be alright. What we showed on Tuesday, we just have to keep doing.”

Cherries now face a break from the league with a home clash against Arsenal in the FA Cup on Monday, before welcoming Aston Villa to Vitality Stadium in another pivotal contest on February 1.

“To be fair I wouldn’t mind this Saturday again playing Aston Villa to be honest,” said Billing.

“Why not? We won on Tuesday.

“A cup game of course is nice, but I’d rather just get the games in so we can get the points on the board. But it’s okay with a cup game, Arsenal at home is not too bad!”
