SWANAGE and Wareham moved to within points difference of Chippenham at the top of South West Two East thanks to a 32-24 victory against Salisbury at Bestwall.

Phil Graves kicked things off for Swans early on with a penalty, before Maurice Elford's graft let in wing James Warren for a converted try.

On the half hour mark Salisbury produced a switch move to let in second row Liam Gilbert, who made no mistake, going over for a converted try.

Then, two minutes later, Gilbert repeated the move to put Salisbury in front at 10-12.

Gavin Steeden's try in the corner just before the break kept Swans in the game and once Salisbury's Dave Thorpe found himself doing time in the sin bin, Swans were buoyant.

Half-back Mike McKeown burst through within minutes of the restart before finding Dave Price-Smith on his wing.

Price-Smith crashed under the posts, Graves converted and Swans found themselves well in front.

Swans' forwards then got in on the act with substitute prop Chris Peters claiming the try that put Swans 29-12 to the good.

Thorpe added a try on his return from the bin before Swans found themselves down to 14 after replacement wing Aaron Lewis was cautioned.

And Salisbury made full use of their one-man advantage as fullback Phil Chesters scored a try out wide.

But, finally, with less than two minutes to go, Salisbury were penalised for holding on to the ball and Phil Graves added the penalty goal to hand Swans the points.
