NATHAN Ake admitted he had been aware of Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman’s attendance for Cherries’ win at West Ham.

Capped seven times at senior level, the Dutchman reatvealed he had received a call from the former Everton and Southampton manager confirming his attendance at London Stadium.

Ake gave away a penalty after being judged to have clipped Chicharito after 31 minutes but, overall, was part of a solid defensive display from Eddie Howe’s men.

Koeman was casting his eye on the 23-year-old ahead of next month’s UEFA Nations League clash with France and home friendly against Peru. Asked whether he knew about Koeman’s presence, the former Chelsea youngster told the Daily Echo: “I was aware. He called me the week before asking how everything was and said he was coming to the game.

“I think it was a good performance apart from the penalty. Defensively it was a difficult game but we managed it well.

“Last season we were quite open in a lot of games and we have worked on it a lot with the defence and midfield to try to organise everything, so we don’t concede as many.

“It’s working at the moment and we have to keep it going.”
