CHERRIES boss Eddie Howe has welcomed changes to the FA's disciplinary procedures regarding suspensions.

Bookings received by players this season will be specific to the competition they were playing in at the time.

Therefore, a yellow card in the FA Cup or Carabao Cup would not count towards a suspension in the Premier League.

However, red cards will continue to apply across all competitions – although standard bans can now be decreased or increased in exceptional cases.

Players will be banned for one, two or three matches in the event of picking up five, 10 or 15 yellow cards, respectively.

There is an amnesty for one-match suspensions after the first 19 games, two-game bans after 32 and three-match suspensions by the end of the season.

Howe told the Daily Echo: "I think it is a good rule and making bookings competition-specific is a good idea.

"It makes sense both ways so if you get booked in a cup, it doesn’t harm you in the Premier League."

Charlie Daniels received Cherries' first yellow card of the season when he was booked by Kevin Friend during Saturday's 2-0 win over Cardiff City at Vitality Stadium.
