AMBITIOUS South West Premier outfit Bournemouth have snapped up Adam Higgins.

The versatile back came through the ranks at Chapel Gate before embarking on the next stage of his rugby career in Australia.

He gained valuable experience Down Under playing for Bond University in the Queensland Premier Rugby competition.

Higgins said: “We have just got to play with no fear this season. There is nothing to lose.

“We should play every game like it’s our last and then we should be up there contending by the end of the season.

“It was good experience playing in Australia. I have always been defence-minded, but it added attacking elements to my game as well.

“In taking passes, you take seconds away, which is not a lot, but it does make a massive difference.

“It took me a while to adapt to the style of play out there and to the heat.”

Higgins insists his favourite position is centre but his versatility allows him to feature on the wing.

He also said he envisages himself as Lions’ defensive marshal in the backline.

Director of rugby Will Croker said having different options in the backs would add strong competition for places.

The head coach said: “Adam is known for his commitment and short bursts of energy, which allow him to power through opponents.

“He is a talented player and a great communicator.

“He is enthusiastic and really hard working. He is definitely going to be a huge feature for us this season.

“Adam enjoys being back at Bournemouth – it is just like family here – and it was an easy decision to make. Bournemouth Rugby are delighted to have him back.”
