BOSS Ollie Cherrett felt Christchurch had deservedly earned a second crack at Brockenhurst in the extra preliminary round of the FA Cup.

Priory will on Tuesday host the Badgers at the MA Hart Stadium at Hurn Bridge after the Wessex Premier rivals battled out a hard-fought 2-2 draw at the Meadens Skoda Arena on Saturday.

Brockenhurst opened the scoring through Will Tickle, somewhat against the run of play, before Christchurch hit back thanks to a James King penalty after Grant Cormack had been fouled.

King put them ahead from the spot after Cormack had again been upended in the second half before James Thomson netted for the hosts to set up the replay (7.45pm).

Cherrett told the Daily Echo: “We started the game really well but got caught on the counter by a great strike from their winger.

“But we responded well and deserved to go in at half-time at least on level terms.

“I was really pleased with the way we started the second half and we created some good chances.

“We scored the second penalty but then conceded about 45 seconds later. That was frustrating and a real shame for us.

“But credit to Brockenhurst. They are physical and direct and had a couple of good chances themselves. But we rightly got what we deserved.

“We are looking forward to another competitive game because both teams will be desperate to win.

“We can take confidence from our first two games and, hopefully, grab the opportunity.”

The Badgers and Priory, both unbeaten in their first league games, will duel for a substantial purse of £2,250 and for the right to visit Hellenic League outfit Binfield in the preliminary round on August 25.
