CHERRIES star Harry Arter is this afternoon set to agree a season-long loan move to Cardiff City.

The Daily Echo understands the Bluebirds last night made a formal approach for the 28-year-old midfielder.

It is understood Republic of Ireland international Arter turned down a move to Watford in favour of signing for Neil Warnock’s men.

The deal for the former Woking star is set to include no recall clause - he will not eligible to feature against Cherries at Vitality Stadium on Saturday.

Arter penned a new four-year contract at Vitality Stadium just 12 months ago but was restricted to just 13 appearances in the Premier League last season.

The arrival of club record signing Jefferson Lerma for £25million has significantly bolstered boss Eddie Howe’s central midfield options.

Republic of Ireland international Arter’s last start in the top flight came during Cherries’ 2-2 draw at Brighton on New Year's Day.

In an interview with the Daily Echo this week, Arter said he had pulled out all the stops during pre-season in a bid to win back his place in the Cherries team.

Arter did not feature for Cherries last season after lining up in the forgettable FA Cup third round replay defeat at Wigan in January.

He joined Cherries from Woking for £4,000 in 2010 and played an instrumental role in the club’s rise to the Premier League.

Arter has also been linked with Newcastle, Middlesbrough and Stoke.

Cherries kick off their Premier League campaign against Cardiff on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Cherries midfielder Emerson Hyndman has joined Scottish Premiership outfit Hibernian on loan until January.
