GEORGIA Hall insisted she had not contemplated pulling out of this week’s European Championship following her Women’s British Open triumph.

The Wimborne-based professional recorded the biggest win of her career at Royal Lytham & St Annes on Sunday as she overcame Thailand’s Pornanong Phatlum by two shots.

Hall was up at the crack of dawn the next day for television interviews as part of a hectic schedule since winning the crown.

But the former British Amateur champion insisted she was planning to stick to her original agenda and today got her European mission off to a fine start alongside Dame Laura Davies.

The Great Britain pair sealed a 5&4 victory over Spanish duo Noemi Jimenez and Silvia Banon in Group A of the event at Gleneagles.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, Hall told the Telegraph: “I know the British Open is massive but just because I won it, it doesn’t mean I should change my whole plans.

“I should still stick to the events I was going to play in. I have an opportunity to play in a European Championship and to play in Scotland and I didn’t think about pulling out for a minute.

“I’m looking forward to this. I’ve never played at Gleneagles and it’s the Solheim Cup venue next year.

“I feel great and hopefully Laura and I can win the gold, which would add up to two very good weeks.”

Being a major winner certainly has its privileges, like playing alongside 85-time tour winner Davies, and being introduced as the champion golfer.

Hall, speaking following their win, said: “You will never get used to that!”

“It was the first time I had heard that, so it was lovely. And then for Laura to be US Senior Open champion was amazing.

“It’s been a crazy few days but Tuesday was a lot quieter so I liked that. Things have started to settle down a bit and I have just been looking forward to this week and playing with Laura – she is such a legend.

“It has been hard to come off that massive high but I love playing golf and playing in team events so I am just looking forward to it all.”

Hall could have been forgiven for being a little rusty after the highs of Sunday but Davies credited her with a key role in their win.

Hall sunk key putts on the fifth and seventh, with a birdie at the former putting them one up. A total of nine-under for the duo was impressive and sets them up nicely for their two other round robin matches against Germany and Belgium.

“It was great fun, Laura and I had a laugh on the way round and I love match play and team events so I am very happy to get a win,” Hall added.

“It was more tranquil but I liked that. It was quiet and allowed me to just focus on the golf, it is a new week and that’s the only way I can approach it.

“We were having fun, it was nice.”

In the round-robin group stage, Davies and Hall tomorrow lock horns with German duo Isi Gabsa and Leticia Ras-Anderica.

Should they progress to the knockout rounds, Hall and Davies would compete for medals on Sunday.
