BOSS Eddie Howe hailed his players for delivering a “great performance” as Cherries rounded off pre-season with an impressive 5-2 win over Marseille.

Joshua King’s double, coupled with goals from Adam Smith, Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser, saw Cherries race into a 5-0 lead against the Ligue 1 outfit.

Marseille, beaten Europa League finalists last season, replied through Valere Germain and Maxime Lopez.

Howe said: “I was so pleased with the players because it was a top-level display. Some of the goals we scored were up there with some of the best I have seen.

“We started quickly with a really nice goal straight from kick off which was well finished by Adam Smith and the momentum never really stopped.

“The game never ceases to amaze how difficult it is to get the balance right between how you work and seeing it come out in the games.

“I have been a little frustrated during pre-season because for all the work we have done in training, we haven’t really seen it in the games until today. We were rewarded all at once with a great performance from the players.”
