CHERRIES star Nathan Ake faces an anxious wait to discover the full extent of an injury after coming off during yesterday’s pre-season friendly against Marseille.

Supporters’ player of the year Ake was replaced by Emerson Hyndman early in the second half of Cherries’ 5-2 victory after taking a whack to a toe.

The Dutchman is tomorrow due to be fully assessed by the club’s medical staff and could be a doubt for Cherries’ Premier League opener against Cardiff.

Ake’s injury has put on hold a proposed season-long loan move to Rangers for Jack Simpson, who had been due to link up with the Scottish outfit early this week.

The 21-year-old, who has made four first-team appearances for Cherries, has been the subject of a number of enquiries with a host of clubs keen to take him on loan.

Rangers, who in May appointed Steven Gerrard as manager, had been hoping to have him available for their Europa League clash against Maribor on Thursday.

But his prospective move to Ibrox is expected to be shelved until the full extent of Ake’s injury is known.

Meanwhile, Cherries pair Brad Smith and Connor Mahoney are expected to complete loan moves to Seattle Sounders and Birmingham City, respectively.

Defender Smith will link up with the Major League Soccer outfit until the end of July 2019, while winger Mahoney will join the Blues on a season-long loan, subject to passing a medical.
