DORSET star Georgia Hall insisted the Women’s British Open was like no other tournament on the calendar as she prepares for her fourth major of the season.

The Wimborne-based professional is part of a star-studded field which will contest the £2.4million showpiece at Royal Lytham & St Annes.

Ranked 39th in the world, Hall will begin her opening round tomorrow alongside South Korea’s In Gee Chun and last week’s Ladies' Scottish Open winner and new world number one Ariya Jutanugarn (11.54am).

Hall, 22, recorded her best major championship finish with a tie for third during last year’s event at Kingsbarns.

A final round 70 saw her finish five shots behind winner In-Kyung Kim and earn £144,000 – the biggest pay day of her fledgling career.

“I'm just looking forward to the week," she told Sky Sports.

"It is the best event in women's golf, in my opinion. It's very close to home for me so it's the event I look forward to the most throughout the year.

"I managed to have a great finish last year and, hopefully, I can do the same this year."

Hall last week played in the Gary Player Invitational alongside American Tom Lehman, who won The Open Championship on the same course in 1996.

Should the former British Amateur champion seal the crown, she would become the first English woman to win the event since Karen Stupples in 2004.

Meanwhile, Hall will compete alongside golf legend Dame Laura Davies in the inaugural European Team Championship.

Davies, who cruised to a 10-shot victory at the US Senior Women's Open last month, was inducted into the World Golf Hall Of Fame in 2015 and boasts 85 tournament wins.

The 54-year-old former world number one has featured in 12 Solheim Cups and won five major championships.

She will partner Hall to form one of the six British teams at Gleneagles, with three pairings each contesting the men's and women's matchplay competitions.

The event will take place from August 8-12 with male and female professionals competing for equal prize money. There will also be an 18-hole foursomes mixed team championship.

Davies said: "I'm really looking forward to representing Great Britain in the upcoming championship, it's always fun to do that.

“Georgia will be a great team-mate. She has been playing some great golf over the past 18 months.

"I've never played an event where there are medals on offer to the winners, so it would be great to get on the podium for the first time."

The competition will form part of the 2018 European Championship, a multi-sport showpiece being jointly staged in Glasgow and Berlin.

Davies is also in action at this week’s major. She is set to tee off alongside Sung Hyun Park and Carlota Ciganda (12.49).
