DEFENDER Baily Cargill has joined MK Dons following his release by Cherries.

The 23-year-old could make his debut in Saturday’s League Two trip to Oldham, where Cherries striker Sam Surridge has just signed on loan.

Dons boss Paul Tisdale told the club website: "Baily is a player I've admired for a number of years, ever since I saw him play for England under-20s, and the opportunity arose to bring him here.

"He's had lots of experience from loan spells but I'm sure he will be pleased to have found somewhere where he can cement a place and demonstrate his ability over a period of time.

"I'm looking forward to seeing how he does. I believe we're the perfect fit."

Cargill, who came through the youth ranks at Dean Court, made 11 appearances for Cherries, including one as a substitute in the Premier League during the 1-1 draw against Manchester United in March 2017.

He came off the bench as a 78th-minute replacement for Tyrone Mings in front of a crowd of 75,000 at Old Trafford to become the first graduate of the club's academy to feature in the top flight.

Cargill, who starred as Cherries reached the League Cup quarter-final for the first time in 2014-15, also served on loan at AFC Totton, Welling, Torquay, Coventry, Gillingham, Fleetwood and Partick Thistle.

He captained Cherries to victory in the third round of the FA Cup at Birmingham City in January 2016 and has also been capped seven times by England under-20s, scoring on his debut against Canada at Dean Court in November 2014.
