SUMMER signing David Brooks admitted his parents found out about his chance to join Cherries before he did – and were crying with happiness at the news.

The 21-year-old admitted he was “minding my own business” when his agent informed mother Cathryn and father Ian about interest from the Dorset club.

Brooks previously revealed his Llangollen-born mum wept with glee after finding out he would be part of the Wales senior squad.

And the former Sheffield United star admitted both parents were overcome with emotion when discovering their son was set to play in the Premier League.

He told the Daily Echo: “I think they knew first! I was minding my own business, my agent told them of the news and they were delighted.

“When the news came around, they were over the moon – even my Dad also shed a tear this time!

“It was all a bit surreal because they just see me as their little boy. It all happened quite quickly, so we came down to Bournemouth to sort out everything.”

Brooks became one of the most sought-after talents in the Championship after impressing at Bramall Lane last season, despite a spell on the sidelines with glandular fever.

And the former Manchester City youngster is excited to test himself at the next level.

He added: “As soon as you hear a Premier League club is interested you are intrigued and you want to potentially make the move happen.

“I can’t wait to get started.”

Brooks could get his first taste of match action for Cherries tomorrow when they take on Sevilla in a pre-season friendly at La Manga Club (7pm BST).
