PROUD Scot Ryan Fraser insisted he did not want England to underperform at the World Cup.

The Cherries winger won his first senior cap for Scotland when they drew 2-2 with Gareth Southgate’s men at Hampden Park in a World Cup qualifier in June 2017.

England went on to top Group F and book their place in the finals at Russia 2018, while Scotland missed out having finished third.

Fraser told the Daily Echo: “I am not one of these people who wants England to do badly.

“Of course, if we play England, I want to beat them. I want to beat anyone who I play but I think it’s silly, you want your home nations to do well.

“I don’t see where that comes from and, if they weren’t in it and I was in it, I’d hope they would think the same for Scotland.”

Fraser has since gone on to represent his country against the Netherlands and Hungary.

The former Aberdeen ace netted five Premier League goals in 26 games last season and finished third in the voting for the Daily Echo-Micky Cave supporters' player-of-the-year award.
