NO FEWER than six Wareham Rangers players were on duty for Dorset during an Inter-County Women’s Representative tournament at Gloucestershire FA's Almondsbury headquarters.

Lily Beasley, Charlie Benefer, Yvette Hill, Sophie Parsons, Jess Taylor and Sammy Watson all played a part as a solitary goal prevented Dorset from qualifying for the final.

Goals from Shaftesbury Town's Danni Rigby in their first two matches earned Dorset 1-0 wins against Devon and Wiltshire and left them in pole position to progress to the final.

However, they received a setback when hosts Gloucestershire condemned them to their first defeat, with Dorset going down 1-0 in their third game of four which were played over 25 minutes.

Dorset needed to beat Somerset in their last group match to book a place in the final, only to go behind to a penalty against the run of play.

A finely-taken free-kick from 30 yards by Poole Town's Bev Symes put them on level terms but they were unable to fashion a winner.

This left Wiltshire needing to beat Devon by two clear goals to pip Dorset to a place in the final – a feat they duly achieved after registering a 2-0 win.

Gloucestershire then overcame Wiltshire 1-0 to win the trophy.
