LEWIS Cook revealed his pride in his England under-21s team-mates after skippering the side to a third straight triumph in the Maurice Revello Tournament.
The Cherries midfielder, who captained England to Under-20 World Cup glory last summer, added another achievement to his impressive CV when Mexico were sunk 2-1 in Martigues on Saturday.
Cook told the FA website: “I’m very happy with the tournament. The boys have put a lot of work in.
“I’m proud of the players and proud of the staff. The staff work really hard to help us get to where we are. It’s a team effort.
“We’ve worked so hard to win the tournament and it’s always great to win trophies, it’s why we are in football.”
England trailed to Roberto Alvarado’s early opener but Middlesbrough’s Dael Fry levelled before Everton’s Kieran Dowell completed the turnaround before half-time.
“Mexico were tough opposition so we were very pleased to win,” said Cook.
“I didn’t think we’d lose the game when we went behind. We were in that situation against Scotland and in other games we have scored late to win, so we know we have the fitness and ability.
“I feel a good sense of accomplishment.”
